New Zealand beat Bangladesh by 4 wickets

Test cricket returns to Good Old' Dhaka. After completing a 150-run victory in Sylhet, the Bangladeshi Tigers can't wait to seal the series with another impressive performance with both bat and ball. Will the Kiwis channel their bounce back spirit and deny the host another ‘Banglawash’?

  • Kane Williamson became the first Kiwi to score four centuries in four tests back to back.
  • Henry Nicholls is not looking good at all, and might not get another go. Rachin Ravindra, a like-for-like replacement, might take his place in the XI.
  • Mirpur is a hunting ground for left arm spin bowler Taijul Islam, who ed for 10 scalps in the first match,

We are backing Bangladesh to win the match.

Having brushed aside New Zealand in style, Team Bangladesh will be itching to have a go at them one more time.

The conditions will clearly favour the home side and their players are on song after putting the opposition on the back foot with a crushing victory. Any result other than a win would be settling for less for Bangladesh, who would be going into this crucial match with their confidence sky-high.

Team New Zealand, on the other hand, would be looking to stave off another defeat and hope that they play better as a team and find ways to apply pressure for a long period of time. NZ batsmen fought valiantly in the second innings of the first test match, batting close to 110 overs and scoring at almost 3 runs per over, but the bowlers didn’t bowl well in the third innings allowing Bangladeshi batsmen to put on a formidable total. Some of their batsmen look clearly out of form and their bowlers need to tighten things up to put a lid on the scoring rate and apply pressure from both ends.

It is going to be an exciting contest.

Bangladesh Preview

Team Bangladesh played their best cricket when it mattered the most. An inspired performance from part-time spinner Glenn Philips with the ball in the first innings, and former captain Kane Williamson with the bat in the second innings kept Bangladesh out of the game for most part of the first 3 days. The Kiwis remained pretty much in contention until the start of the third innings and were all set to run the host team close.

But the home team never backed out and kept playing to their strengths to continue to put pressure on the Kiwis hoping that they’ll crumble. And, boy didn’t they crumble? Team Bangladesh bossed the third and fourth innings and never allowed the Kiwis to get back into the game. Bangladeshi batsmen went after the Kiwi spin duo Ish Sodhi and Ajaz Patel with intent and kept the scoreboard ticking along nicely. After putting on board a formidable target, their bowlers kept asking serious questions of the Kiwi batsmen, and none of them had any answers.

Bangladeshi Tigers will come into this match hoping to put on another clinical display of cricket with bat and ball so they can pull off that elusive first series win over the Kiwis in this format of the game. They are likely to play the same XI, barring any injury to players.

New Zealand Preview

The Kiwis are a touch unsettled now after a huge defeat in the first test. , they finished their first innings with a slender lead, but New Zealand bowlers couldn’t sustain the pressure on the Bangladeshi batsmen in the third innings and let them score freely. And once they racked up over 330 runs, it was always going to be a Himalayan task for the Kiwi batsmen to chase that total down or avoid defeat on a fifth day wicket, which was a dream for spin bowlers.

The Kiwis batsmen were exposed and fell like nine pins. They were reeling at 102-7 in the fourth innings starring at one of their biggest defeats away from home and wouldn’t have got to finish with 181 , but for a lower-order rescue act from Daryl Mitchell and a couple of other bowlers.

They are likely to make a few changes to their XI, especially struggling batsman Henry Nicholls making way for in-form batter Rachin Ravindra, who’s in great nick after an excellent world cup campaign. With the odds pretty much stacked against them, the Kiwis need to put their best XI on the park to be able to stay in the fight longer and give themselves a genuine chance of shocking the host team in these spin-friendly conditions.

New Zealand Predicted Playing XI:

Tom Latham, Devon Conway, Kane Williamson, Henry Nicholls/Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Blundell, Glenn Phillips, Kyle Jamieson/Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee (C), Ajaz Patel

Weather Conditions

The weather forecast is looking good in general except for the second day when odd showers might interrupt the game for some time.

BAN vs NZ Pitch Report

The conditions are generally spin-friendly at the Sher-e-Bangla National stadium but bear in mind that Bangladeshi seamers lapped up 21 wickets in the two tests to happen earlier this year.

Toss: To Bowl

The team winning the toss will most likely bat first and look to cash in when the conditions are ripe for batting. Besides, it allows them to have a go at the opposition in the fourth innings in these rank turners where the odd ball keeps low and straight and is a huge challenge to negotiate.

If Bangladesh manage to win this match, it will be their third win over NZ in less than 24 months and their first series victory against the Kiwis in this format. They’re the better side and have all bases covered for these conditions. Unless the Kiwi bowlers and batters play to potential with confidence, this match could be over in quick time.

We are backing Bangladesh to win the match.
