The first match was a humdinger. We were not sure which way the match will go. Both teams came hard at each other and the excitement was unparalleled when the batsmen were in full flow.
Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama starred for the Sri Lankan team before captain Charith Asalanka unleashed a flurry of boundaries to take his team to a stiff target. Jaker Ali, who scored 6 maximums just like the SL captain did, kept his team on course for a scintillating victory, ed ably by Mahmudullah. The warhorse put his skill on display in a pressure situation when his team was slightly on the backfoot after losing 4 wickets with less than 1/3rd of the total they were supposed to chase down.
Sri Lanka would be a little surprised at how the hosts came counterpunching in the face of defeat. Bangladeshis would rue about a missed opportunity to chase down a huge score. The second match has all the ingredients to be a gripping contest.

Bangladeshi batsmen dug deep in an attempt to get their team get past a stiff target after their bowlers leaked plenty of runs during the death overs. That’s the summary.
The Bangladeshi batsmen punched above their weight and came extremely close to taking a victory, thanks to inspiring performances from youngster Jaker Ali (68) and old warhorse Mahmudullah (54). Bangladesh stayed in the hunt right till the last ball, needing six off the final ball, but the task proved to be beyond Taskin Ahmed’s reach.
Things would have been a little easier had Bangladesh got off to a good start in the run-chase. Litton Das and Towhid Hridoy went back to hut cheaply with Angelo Mathews picking up both of them, and suddengly Bangladesh lost their top order inside the powerplay overs. Captain Najmul Shanto, who takes time to get his eye in before he could launch, combined with Mahmudullah to steer the ship to safety and make sure they didn’t fall over. The margin of defeat was 3 runs in the end, but Bangladesh wouldn’t have been chasing that many had their bowlers demonstrated better death bowling skills.
Mustafizur Rahman undid all the good work early on in the innings, with a couple of poor overs in the backend which saw him concede 3 sixes and 2 fours in a space of 8 balls.

The visitors finished with a massive total on board, but they had a serious setback early on losing opener Avishka Fernando in the second ball of the innings. It was the Mendis’ show in the middle, but just when it started to blossom into something huge, Kamindu Mendis had to depart. But Kusal took the game on, scoring 59 off 36 balls which included 6 boundaries and 3 sixes. Sadeera Samarawickrama, also, top-scored for the visitors with 61; he smoked nine boundaries but got to clear the ropes once. It didn’t matter much because he had captain Charith Asalanka come all guns blazing, scoring 6 massive sixes off his 21 ball cameo.
Both batsmen made erring Bangladeshi players pay a heavy price, slamming 64 runs off the last 4 overs. Defending 207 for a win, Sri Lanka got early breakthroughs courtesy Angelo Mathews who struck in the first and fifth overs with the key scalps of Litton Das and Towhid Hridoy. Bindura Fernando ed for Sowmya Sarkar and slinger Matheesha Pathirana dismissed BAN captain Najmul Hossain who stuttered his way to 20 off 22. However, the rear-guard attack by Mahmudullah and Jaker Ali spoiled his figures for the day and he leaked 56 runs off his full quota of overs- the most expensive spell for the day.
Just when it seemed like Jaker Ali would get the 12 runs off the last over to take the hosts over the line, Dasun Shanaka bowled with composure, giving away just 8 runs and picking up two crucial wickets to dash their hopes.

The pitch had considerable grass cover in the first match, so we expect a similar surface for the second fixture, as well. Batsmen need to negotiate the first few overs, get their eye in, and then set up a base for the powers to launch from. This should be another high scoring contest. The forecast suggests that weather will not play a part in this match.
This match will be played at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. Sri Lanka have won both their encounters against the hosts here. They chose to bat first and scored 200 on both occasions.
The first match was a clear sign that chasing a stiff target wouldn’t be pretty difficult here, with the home team finishing just 3 short of their target. The team batting second in this fixture, whether they elect to or are asked to chase, wouldn’t mind doing so.
A gutsy chasing effort from the hosts in the first match meant the visitors didn’t get to dictate , but they would be happy with a win. We think that the Sri Lankans would sort out a few areas in their death bowling and put in a series-winning performance now. Sri Lanka to win.
We are backing Sri Lanka to win this contest.
