Brisbane Heat face up to Adelaide Strikers in the Women’s Big Bash League at the Gabba.

Heat, after losing three in a row, will be itching to have a go at Strikers, a side they’ve had a lot of success against in the last month or so. The Brisbane girls have defeated their counterparts from Adelaide twice in the T20 Spring Challenge and once in the WBBL just inside the last 25 days or so.

On the flip side, Strikers, who’re in a spot of bother with three defeats from four games, will be circumspect about their chances coming up against a team like Heat who’ve beaten them fair and square of late.

he fact that Adelaide Strikers have never been able to get the better of Brisbane Heat at the Gabba will also be playing in the minds of several players in the camp.

Brisbane Heat Preview

Brisbane Heat had the perfect lead into the WBBL , straight after their runners-up finish in the inaugural T20 Spring challenge. They made the most of it, too, winning the first two games of the competition defeating Strikers by 4 wickets with 12 balls to spare and knocking over Renegades by a margin of 28 runs.

Before they could inject some momentum into their campaign, they suffered a 7-wicket defeat in the hands of recent nemesis Hobart Hurricanes. The disappointment from that match was barely over, and they came up a cropper against Perth Scorchers, as well, losing by 28 runs chasing a decent 143 for victory. Their struggle to arrest a sudden slide got worse when Sydney Thunder handed them their third successive defeat over in Perth.

Grace Harris has stood out with the bat, scoring 165 runs off 5 games at a healthy average of 33 and a fairly good strike rate of 133. She has really taken the lead with Georgia Redmayne failing to get huge scores. And so have Charli Knott and Laura Harris, chipping in with 118 runs and 110 runs off five games, respectively.

With the ball, Shikha Pandey has delivered the goods, picking up 6 wickets from 5 games. Nicola Hancock and Jess Jonassen have been amongst the wickets, too, but they’ve not been able to bowl as well as they’d have liked coming into the competition.

Brisbane Heat Predicted Playing XI:

Georgia Redmayne(w), Grace Harris, Jemimah Rodrigues, Jess Jonassen(c), Charli Knott, Laura Harris, Nadine de Klerk, Sianna Ginger, Shikha Pandey, Grace Parsons, Nicola Hancock

Adelaide Strikers Preview

From the heights of a title triumph last season, Adelaide Strikers have fallen straight to the bottom. With one match to go before the halfway stage of the competition, the Strikers are languishing in the bottom with just one odd win to show from their four matches so far. They didn’t take long to recover from their opening bout defeat to Strikers, beating Sixers in their second match in an unconvincing manner- by 11 runs. But they couldn’t make much out of that quick recovery though as a massive 64-run defeat to table-toppers Thunder followed in the third fixture.

A dismal bowling performance saw their bowlers leak runs and let Thunder run off to 212, but Strikers batters couldn’t match up to that scoring intensity in pursuit of 213. They came into the Renegades encounter hoping to turn a corner, and they almost did. Strikers batters ended with 157, which was a good total to defend on a tricky Junction Oval pitch, and their bowlers made early inroads restricting Renegades batters to 52/5. But they couldn’t stop Sophie Molineux waging a lone battle and paid a heavy price for it: a last ball defeat.

Tahlia McGrath has been a rock with the bat, accumulating 120 runs from 4 games including a top score of 64*. Katie Mack with 112 runs from 4 games is also tracking well for Strikers.

Megan Schutt, as expected, carried her good form from the world cup into the competition, taking 6 scalps from 4 matches. Anesu Mushangwe and Orla Prendergast have chipped in with handy wickets, as well.

Adelaide Strikers Predicted Playing XI:

Katie Mack, Laura Wolvaardt, Ellie Johnston(w), Tahlia McGrath(c), Madeline Penna, Orla Prendergast, Amanda-Jade Wellington, Jemma Barsby, Megan Schutt, Darcie Brown, Anesu Mushangwe.

Weather Conditions

The Gabba wicket has generally been excellent to bat on initially, but the odd spots in the strip could open up making chasing all the more harder. 145 to 160 is going to be a great total first up. We’re in for a pleasant night with low odds of thunderstorms bringing rain to play spoilsport.

BHW vs ADSW Pitch Report

The match is all set to happen at the Brisbane Cricket Ground in Woolloongabba, Brisbane. Brisbane Heat women have beaten Adelaide Strikers women in each of their three meetings here.

Toss: To Bat

Chasing sides have had it rough here at the Gabba in the BBL in the past few years, with only one win in 11 matches. If that trend were to continue, we would see teams choosing to bat first without any shred of doubt. Win toss, bat first and put a sizeable total on board, and let the scoreboard pressure get to the chasing side. It’s got to be the way.

Brisbane Heat women have toyed with Adelaide Strikers recently, ing three comfortable wins last month. Their form has nosedived a bit, but they’ll fancy their chances coming up against a struggling Strikers side.

We are picking Brisbane Heat women as winners of this contest.
