B-Love Kandy have made the most remarkable of turnarounds. They had lost their first two games of the Lanka Premier League 2023 by huge margins, and it looked like they would struggle this season. However, Kandy went on to win their next four games on the trot to make their way into the top two. Although they lost their last game, Kandy have already qualified for the playoffs. Kandy are in 2nd place at the moment, and a win in their final league game – against Dambulla Aura tonight – will ensure they remain there. That, however, won’t be an easy task, as Dambulla are the table-toppers and are the team to beat this year.

After winning four consecutive matches, B-Love Kandy finally suffered a loss – against Colombo Strikers on Sunday at the R. Premadasa Stadium. Chasing a target of 170 on a wicket that had something in it for the bowlers, Kandy never really got going and fell short by 9 runs. Wanindu Hasaranga once again led from the front, top-scoring with a fluent 40 off 21 balls and taking 2-21 off his 4 overs.
Hasaranga has had an outstanding season as an all-rounder and is now Kandy’s leading run-getter (193 runs at a strike rate of 203) and top wicket-taker (10 wickets at an economy of 5.49). It goes without saying that he will be Kandy’s player to watch out for.
Pakistani opener Fakhar Zaman has had a good season as well, scoring 148 runs in 5 innings at 113. An in-form Zaman can be destructive at the top and can take the game away from the opposition quickly.
Angelo Mathews (128 runs and 7 wickets) continues to show why he is still one of the most bankable cricketers around. He may not be setting the stage on fire, but the all-rounder still keeps contributing with both the bat and ball.
Fast bowlers Nuwan Pradeep (9 wickets in 4 matches at 5.49) and Isuru Udana (9 wickets in 7 matches at 8.62) have been consistent as well.

Dambulla Aura have taken the top spot on the table after winning four matches on the trot. Their previous game was against Colombo Strikers on Saturday at the R. Premadasa Stadium, which they won by 50 runs. Batting first, Dambulla scored 166-5 from their 20 overs and then bowled Colombo Strikers out for just 116.
Playing just his first innings of the season, Ben McDermott top-scored with a wonderful unbeaten 69 off 46 balls and shared superb 102-run partnership with Alex Ross (52 off 38 balls).
For Dambulla, opener Avishka Fernando (174 runs in 7 innings at 121) and Sadeera Samarawickrama (154 runs in 7 innings at 130.50) have been the most consistent batters. Kusal Mendis (149 runs in 7 innings at 127.35) is another batter worth backing.
Among the bowlers, Pakistani speedster Hasan Ali has left a mark, taking 7 wickets at an economy of 6.31 in 4 innings. Binura Fernando and left arm wrist spinner Noor Ahmad have also taken 7 wickets each, and have played crucial roles in Dambulla’s rise this season.

The pitch at the R. Premadasa Stadium offers a good amount of pace and bounce. It's a true surface with even bounce, allowing batsmen to play their shots freely. However, as the match progresses, spinners can also find assistance due to the wearing nature of the pitch. Batters who spend some time at the wicket can expect good value for their shots at this venue.
The weather in Colombo today will be mostly pleasant with times of clouds. A couple of showers are expected today.
The average score batting first at the R. Premadasa Stadium in the tournament is 148, which comes down to 130 in the second innings. The highest total posted at the venue this year is 180, which has been made by three teams. The team batting first in this game should look to set a target of around 165 runs.
The team batting first has had more success at the R. Premadasa Stadium in this season's Lanka Premier League, winning seven of the ten matches played at the venue. The toss-winning team is therefore certain to bat first in this match.
Kandy have a 4-3 head-to-head record against Dambulla in the Lanka Premier League. Both teams have had an outstanding run in the tournament and are more than likely to clash at some point later on. Kandy have risen to the top on the back of an incredible all-round show by their skipper. However, Dambulla are a much more balanced team and have greater batting and bowling depth. If they can somehow keep Hasaranga quiet, they will have a real chance of winning this game and establishing their place at the top of the standings.
We are backing Dambulla Aura as the winner of this match.
