Many of India’s star players will feature in the Duleep Trophy 2024. There are 4 teams in this tournament; each will play 3 matches. Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan are the ones to watch out for.

They had missed the Ranji Trophy and were left out of BCCI’s central contracts. They will stake their claim for a spot in the India squad for the Australia tour.

There could be a tussle between the two wicket-keeper batters in the India D squad. Iyer will have a choice between Kishan and Srikar Bharat. In an ideal scenario, they would include both in the playing XI.

India D looks quite strong with the bat featuring the likes of Axar Patel, Devdutt Paddikal, and Ricky Bhui in addition to the aforementioned star batters. Ruturaj Gaikwad will lead India C in the Duleep Trophy.

He’s got some promising batters in the squad. Rajat Patidar will be a key batter to watch out for. It should be a great 4-day Test match between these two teams. There is plenty of talent and a lot to prove for each of them ahead of India’s Australia tour.

India C Preview

It is a new-format tournament this year in the Duleep Trophy. They have done away with the different zones and only have 4 teams - A, B, C, and D. Sai Sudharsan and Vijaykumar Vyshak, part of the South Zone until last season will be now playing for India C led by Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Their former teammates Ricky Bhui and Srikar Bharat will be in the opposition camp in this match. This is a great opportunity for the young Gaikwad to lead a domestic side in a 4-day Test.

He’s got some solid from the batters with Suryakumar Yadav and Rajat Patidar in the squad. They’ve got 3 wicket-keeper batters that include Baba Aparajith, Abhishek Porel, and Aryan Juyal.

Porel has looked very promising in the T20 format scoring at a strike rate of 152 in his 18 IPL matches. Sai Sudarsan also made headlines while batting for Gujarat Titans in the top order.

There is a lot of strength in this batting department. They will be tested by a strong bowling attack of India D that features Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh on a pace-friendly pitch in Anantapur.

Though India C has Mayank Markande in the bowling attack, it will be pacers like Vyshak and Sandeep Warrier who will be crucial in gaining the upper hand in the contest.

India C Predicted Playing XI:

Ruturaj Gaikwad (c), Sai Sudarsan, Baba Indrajith, Suryakumar Yadav, Rajat Patidar, Abhishek Porel (wk), Hritik Shokeen, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Sandeep Warrier, Anshul Kamboj, Gaurav Yadav

India C Actual Playing XI:

Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sai Sudharsan, Rajat Patidar, Abhishek Porel, Baba Indrajith, Manav Suthar, Vyshak Vijaykumar, Anshul Kamboj, Aryan Juyal, Himanshu Chauhan, Hrithik Shokeen

India D Preview

This is a star-studded side with some big names making their return to domestic cricket. All eyes will be on Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan who lost their central contracts due to their non-participation in the Ranji Trophy.

This is like a golden opportunity for the two to find their way back in the side ahead of the Test season. While this pitch is supposed to help prepare Indian batters for the Australian tour, India might also consider the best performers here for the home season.

As such, each of these matches in the Duleep Trophy holds great significance for the individuals participating in it. Axar Patel is a strong all-rounder who’s got plenty of experience at all levels. He might not find a great deal of help from this surface but will still manage to trouble the opposition with his accuracy.

He is also crucial with the bat in the lower order. Ricky Bhui will also be quite keen on making an impression with the bat in this tournament. Devdutt Padikkal who shot to fame in his first IPL season playing alongside Virat Kohli hasn’t made an impact since leaving RCB.

He too has plenty to prove here. The bowling attack of India D sets them apart and gives them an edge over the opposition. Arshdeep Singh’s ability to move the ball along with Tushar Deshpande’s pace and Harshit Rana’s recent form make for a deadly pace-trio.

India D Predicted Playing XI:

Devdutt Padikkal, Ishan Kishan (wk), Shreyas Iyer (c), Ricky Bhui, Srikar Bharat, Axar Patel, Atharva Taide, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Tushar Deshpande, Aditya Thakare

India D Actual Playing XI:

Shreyas Iyer, Atharva Taide, Yash Dubey, Devdutt Padikkal, Ricky Bhui, Saransh Jain, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Aditya Thakare, Harshit Rana, KS Bharat

Weather Conditions

There will be cloudy skies in Anantapur on Day 1 of the Test with a high of 33 degrees Celsius. The weather is likely to stay the same throughout the 4 days of the match. There is no prediction of rain during any of these days. The fast pitches along with the overcast conditions should help the new-ball bowlers early on in the match.

IND C vs IND D Pitch Report

The pitches at the Rural Development Trust Stadium in Anantpur are curated in a way to help India prepare for their tour of Australia. There will be plenty of bounce and pace on offer on this wicket. Though there haven’t been any top-tier matches here in the last decade, it has been a great venue for pacers. The fast bowlers bagged over 300 wickets in 15 matches played on this ground between 2004 and 2013.

Toss: To Bat

Toss should not be a huge factor in this match given there will be plenty of bounce and carry on this wicket. Both pacers and batters will benefit from the conditions. However, since the goal is here to prepare for the Australia tour, batters would like to get as much game time as possible.

Based on the squad strengths of both sides, India D is ahead in the contest. However, India C also has a strong overall side with plenty of batting talent. But they are in for a tough challenge from the India D bowlers. India C’s bowling may not be as good as the opposition and they could fall behind on that front. As such, India D has the upper hand going into this match and will start as favorites in our match prediction.
