The quarter-finals of the Asian Games Men's Cricket Competition have finally been decided. Nepal have topped Group A courtesy of two crushing wins and will now be facing India at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field in Hangzhou on October 3. Nepal will be highly confident after their performance and will fancy their chances against a second-string Indian side. However, although Team India is without its main players, the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side has enough talent, and they will start as favorites for this clash.

Team India’s first-choice players are currently gearing up to participate in the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023, which starts later this week. The BCCI has hence sent a second-string side to fulfill the duties in the Asian Games Men's Cricket Competition.
Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has a talented bunch of players in his ranks. Gaikwad himself is in good form. He scored a fluent 71 off 77 balls in the first ODI against Australia at Mohali recently and will be India’s main batter to watch out for here.
Partnering with him will be Yashasvi Jaiswal. The exciting opener has made an outstanding start to his international career, scoring a hundred on his Test debut and a brilliant unbeaten 84 off 51 balls in his second T20I match, both against the West Indies. Jaiswal is an aggressive left-handed batter and will relish this pitch. We are expecting a big contribution from him.
We are also backing Tilak Varma (174 runs in his last 7 matches) to make an impression. The left-handed batter has the ability to start taking bowlers on right from the word go and has impressed in whatever opportunities he has got.
Rinku Singh has proven himself to be a brilliant finisher in the IPL. He showed his mettle in a T20I against Ireland in August of this year. Nepal’s bowlers might find it hard to contain him on this small ground.
On the bowling front, India has plenty of options too. Left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh (14 wickets in the last 10 matches) will lead the pace attack. He will pose a threat to Nepal’s top-order with his ability to bring the ball in at good speed.
Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi always has a bag of tricks up his sleeve and will be quite a handful against Nepal. He bowls in the powerplay overs too, and we feel he will be India’s wrecker-in-chief in this game.

Nepal are coming into this quarter-final on the back of two thumping wins. They crushed Mongolia by a record margin of 273 runs—the biggest margin by runs in all T20s—and then won their second match against Maldives by 138 runs.
Kushal Malla has been their standout batter in the Asian Games, with scores of 137* off 50 balls against Mongolia and 47* off 20 balls against Maldives. He is a hard-hitting batter and can change the complexion of the game in the middle.
Captain Rohit Paudel has led from the front, scoring two back-to-back fifties. His strike rate stands at an impressive 145 in his last 10 matches.
Dipendra Singh Airee (358 runs in his last 10 matches) is another batter worth watching out for. He has been really consistent in recent times for Nepal and is fresh off a record-breaking knock of 52 off only 10 balls—the fastest fifty in all T20s—against Maldives.
Nepal has a talented set of bowlers too in their ranks, none more so than perhaps Sandeep Lamichhane. The young leg-spinner has made a terrific return to international cricket and has taken 3 wickets in the Asian Games at an economy of just 3.83.
Karan KC (13 wickets in his last 9 matches) is Nepal’s most reliable fast bowler. He is incisive with his lengths and can trouble India’s top-order.

The pitch at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field is more favorable for batters. Bowlers will get some help here because of the two-paced nature of the wicket. However, it tends to stay flat for the most part, and batters can easily hit through the line. Spinners and seamers who vary their speeds will get some purchase of the wicket.
The weather in Hangzhou will be partly sunny and humid.
The average score batting first at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field is 151. The highest total posted here is the record-breaking 314-3 by Nepal against Mongolia. The shirt boundaries here mean that we will see plenty of fours and sixes here again, especially because both teams have a lot of hard-hitters. The team batting first would look to set a target of around 200-odd runs.
Out of the nine matches played at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field in the Asian Games, five have been won by the team batting first and four by the team chasing. Teams batting first at this venue have put on massive scores on a few occasions, which have completely put the chasing side out of the match. So, we expect the toss-winning side to bat first in this knockout match.
India and Nepal have never clashed in a T20I before. Nepal will be pretty confident after those two dominating victories. However, they would do well to know that the opposition they faced was not of the same caliber as the opposition they are going to meet here. India might be without their main players, but they have enough depth in all departments to dominate Nepal. The only thing that might hinder them is that they haven’t played a single game in these conditions, while Nepal have already played two. However, that shouldn’t be that big of an issue, as the players are talented enough to adapt to these conditions quickly. Nepal can run India close, but the Men in Blue should emerge victorious.
India are favorites to win this match.
