India beat England by 347 runs

Women’s test cricket returns to India after almost a decade, with India taking on England. In these years, India have only managed to draw two test matches abroad- one in England and one in Australia-. England, on the other hand, have succumbed to Australia thrice and held on to a draw in two other matches against Australia and South Africa respectively. They’ll be keen on turning things around at the test scene with an impressive performance against India.

  • These sides have met 14 times before, with India winning twice, England once, and 11 matches ending in a tame draw.
  • With specialist opener Emma Lamb ruled out, Tammy Beaumont will get a new batting partner up top.
  • Smrithi Mandhana brought up a ton the last time she took the field in whites, scoring 127 against Australia in a day night test down under. She'll be key to India's chances.

We are backing India as the winners of this contest.

Modelling their approach on the free-flowing style of Bazball cricket has paid huge dividends already, and England women are optimistic about playing an aggressive brand of cricket against a quality Indian side.

The visitors believe their brand-new style of cricket will help them overcome the daunting challenge in front of them: facing India in India. Heather Knight and her teammates have a clear idea of what they’ll be dished out here, and they’re primed and ready for the challenge. India, on the other hand, will be licking its wounds after losing the T20 series 1-2.

Team India know they cannot take England lightly at all, because the talent and the belief in the England team is huge and they’re also backing it up with match-winning performances. As hosts, India will feel at home in these conditions, but they know their opposition will get on the paddock trying to make life difficult for them with bat and ball.

India Women Preview

After years of captaining the white ball side, Harmanpreet Kaur finally gets her first opportunity to lead the team. She’s amassed over 6000 runs in 280-odd appearances in white-ball cricket for Team India, but her test returns look paltry with just 38 runs in 3 matches so far. She enjoys winning and leading from the front and will be desperate to get out there and improve her test numbers.

She has a point to prove, and so does her team.

England beat them 2-1 in the T20 leg and present a tough challenge in the test format with their quality players. Besides, India have not won a test match in well over 9 years; if there was a chance for them to break this rut it would be this. With a lot of senior players in their XI and a pool of talented youngsters, India will be hoping to set the record straight this time.

Most of their batters were looking a little out of shape against Sophie Ecclestone in the first two matches but came down swinging to negate her spin threat and took the team to a consolation victory in the last match. It’ll be interesting to see how they go about facing her in the longer version.

India Women Predicted Playing XI:

Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Yastika Bhatia, Harmanpreet Kaur (c) , Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, Richa Ghosh (wk), Pooja Vastrakar, Meghna Singh, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Renuka Thakur Singh.

India Women Actual Playing XI:

Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Shubha SatIsh, Harmanpreet Kaur, Shafali Verma, Deepti Sharma, Pooja Vastrakar, Yastika Bhatia, Sneh Rana, Renuka Singh, Rajeshwari Gayakwad

England Women Preview

England’s search for a test win continues, with their last victory coming a decade ago against Australia women in Perth. Heather Knight and Co will be inspired to create history when they take on Harmanpreet Kaur- led India in a one-off test. The visitors are awash with experienced campaigners and incredibly talented young players with a lot of potential, the sort of mix you need that can win you games while playing in subcontinent conditions.

Stellar performances in the Ashes and against Sri Lanka at home, and a T20 series win in India have done a world of good to the confidence of this group of players, and now they’re ready to go for this Test against a quality opposition like India.

Opener Emma Lamb has returned home with a back injury but teen star Alice Capsey, who had a breakout season last year, might get a look-in and open alongside Tammy Beaumont given what she has to offer with both bat and ball. ODI-veteran Danni Wyatt and Sophia Dunkley bring much-needed stability and firepower to the middle order comprising of dependable middle order batters Heather Knight and Nat Sciver-Brunt.

Spinners Sophie Ecclestone and Charlie Dean will also be quite confident of what they can achieve in these conditions after they help dismiss India cheaply for 80 in one of the T20 matches at Wankhede. The seam-bowling stocks look good with Kate Cross spearheading the attack and two Laurens- Bell and Filer- keeping her company.

England Women Predicted Playing XI:

Tammy Beaumont, Alice Capsey, Heather Knight (c), Nat Sciver-Brunt, Sophia Dunkley, Danielle Wyatt, Amy Jones (wk), Sophie Ecclestone, Kate Cross, Lauren Filer, Lauren Bell.

England Women Actual Playing XI:

Tammy Beaumont, Kate Cross, Lauren Filer, Danielle Wyatt, Sophia Dunkley, Heather Knight, Natalie Sciver, Amy Jones, Sophie Ecclestone, Lauren Bell, Charlie Dean

Weather Conditions

The pitch will heavily favour spin bowling, so both teams will pack their XI with spin bowlers and part timers. The weather forecast looks clear, and, if it holds, we should have a full game without any rain interruption.

IND-W vs ENGW Pitch Report

This match will take place at DY Patil sports stadium in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra. Having hosted a couple of WT20Is before, this stadium will host its first women’s test this week.

Toss: To Bat

The approach will be to win toss, bat first and put a huge total on board, and have a go at the opposition later on. Batting in the fourth inning on a dusty spin bowl is as difficult as one could imagine, and teams will want to avoid doing that.

Facing Indian bowlers in Indian conditions is a stern test but this new look England side with their aggressive style of cricket wouldn’t mind putting themselves through the paces and see how they fare.

If they play with game smarts and don’t look to get too ahead of themselves, they can push India on the backfoot and see if they wobble. That’ll be their only chance of defeating the home side.

We are backing India as the winners of this contest.
