Two of the strong teams going around in the WT20I circuit, India and West Indies, get ready for a clash on unfamiliar territory as they gear up for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in the UAE.
India is a powerhouse with several superstars in the squad whereas West Indies is largely dependent on a couple of players contributing. But both India and West Indies will be keen to use this warm-up match as an opportunity to acclimatize to the conditions in the UAE.
Neither team has played a T20 international in this part of the world, so adapting to the pitches and weather will be crucial for their success in the tournament. India holds a slight edge over West Indies in their head-to-head encounters, winning 13 out of 21 matches.
However, West Indies has shown that they can compete with the best and will be looking to beat the odds and go for the win to take a moral victory out of this crucial warm-up match.

India has been a consistent performer in the T20 format, consistently featuring in the business end of the past three editions of this ICC tournament. Yes, it’s disappointing that every time they come so close to toppling stronger opponents in the semifinal or the final, only to lose.
But the Indian women team will be pumped for this tournament. In the 25 matches since last world cup final, India women have won 16 and lost 7. They lost five games at home- twice to both England and Australia and once to South Africa.
Other two losses came against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka away from home. Led by the experienced Harmanpreet Kaur, India boasts a formidable batting lineup, featuring Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Shafali Verma, who can dismantle any bowling attack if she gets going. In the current year, Mandhana has scored 495 runs at an average of 45, while Verma has accumulated 434 runs at a brilliant strike rate of 132. Richa Ghosh, known for her aggressive style, has scored 240 runs from 14 matches at a strike rate of 157.89.
Their bowling unit, led by Deepti Sharma, Pooja Vastrakar, and Radha Yadav, has also been in fine forms. Sharma has been India's leading wicket-taker, claiming 23 wickets in her last 16 matches this year. Pooja Vastrakar and Radha Yadav have also been effective, with 20 and 22 wickets respectively in the same period.

The West Indies women's team have been on a decline at the world stage, ever since their 2016 title triumph in Kolkata. The semi final finish they managed in 2018 has been their best result since then, as they suffered a league stage exit in 2020 and 2023 due to poor player form and performances.
Thankfully, their intent to win games has gone up and they’re showing definite signs of resurgence in recent times, with notable wins against Australia in Australia where Hayley Matthews orchestrated the highest ever run chase in WT20I.
Hayley Matthews has been their standout performer, excelling both with the bat and the ball. Matthews has been a force to be reckoned with in recent times. In 2023, the Barbadian scored 700 runs from 14 matches with a high score of 132 against Australia and took 19 wickets at an economy rate of 6.84. She has 313 runs from 8 games in this year.
The Caribbean side also possesses a talented bowling attack, led by Afy Fletcher and Shamilia Connell, who can make life difficult for any batting lineup. Fletcher and Connell have been key contributors to West Indies' bowling success of late . Fletcher has claimed 16 wickets in her last 8 matches this year, while Connell had an excellent run last season in which she pocketed 13 wickets

The venue is known for its low-scoring pitches. Lower-ranked teams feature in contests here and that explains the small totals, more often under 100. Run scoring can be tough but rhe match aggregates are all over the place from 125 to 251 and it’s kind of hard to predict how the pitch would behave. Any score above 120 to 130 should be enough to defend on such wickets where the ball can grip a bit and turn square. Clear weather is forecast for this game.
The ICC Academy Ground No 2, Dubai, UAE will host this warm-up match. This is the first time these two teams are playing each other in the UAE.
In the six matches held here over the years, teams chasing won four times quite comfortably. The captain of the team winning the toss could read into that stat and choose to field first.
Although this match is all about getting used to the conditions and prepare well for the huge tournament ahead, we reckon India would come up trumps with their well-rounded squad of batters, bowlers and all-rounders who know how to perform in these conditions.
We are backing India women to win this match.
