It’s time for the Global T20 Canada finals! Rain washed away both qualifiers, due to which Montreal Tigers advanced to the finals as they finished on the top of the table in the league stage. The Tigers will now take on Toronto Nationals in the high-octane final. Montreal Tigers have lost just one match this season and have already defeated Toronto Nationals quite convincingly earlier in the tournament. Thus, they will certainly have the edge in this final.

Montreal Tigers have played four matches in the Global T20 Canada 2024 and have lost just one. They topped the table in the league stage and have earned their right to be in the final.
Batting hasn’t been their strongest suit, and it’s the combined performance of their bowlers on this slow wicket that has allowed them to dominate oppositions. Azmatullah Omarzai has been their standout bowler, taking 10 wickets in just 5 innings at an economy of just 5.
Kaleem Sana and Aayan Afzal Khan have been outstanding as well, taking 9 wickets apiece at miserly rates. These three form the core of Montreal’s bowling unit and will be their most important players in the final.
Their batting unit has almost single-handedly been led by Dilpreet Bajwa, who has collected 206 runs in 6 innings at an average of 68.66 and a strike rate of 144.
None of the other batters have managed to cross more than 100 runs for Montreal this year, with Tim Seifert being the second best with 88 runs at a strike rate of 114.
Dilpreet Bajwa, Tim Seifert (c & wk), Gerhard Erasmus, Sherfane Rutherford, Azmatullah Omarzai, Ashton Agar, Corbin Bosch, Aayan Afzal Khan, Zahoor Khan, Kaleem Sana, Parveen Kumar
Toronto Nationals have made their way into the finals with a thumping 5-wicket win over Brampton Wolves in Qualifier 2. This will be a tougher challenge as Toronto will be up against the best side in the tournament.
Toronto’s batting unit this season has almost completely been dependent on Unmukt Chand and Colin Munro, both of whom have scored 123 runs each this year. Munro seems to be getting some good momentum and top-scored with a classy 36 off 20 balls in Qualifier 2.
Their bowling has been excellent throughout and has been led by Junaid Siddique, who has 13 wickets to his name in 7 innings at an economy of 7.94. Romario Shepherd has provided him great with 12 wickets in just 6 innings at an economy of 7.29.
Another bowler to watch out for is Jason Behrendorff. The left-arm pacer from Australia has 8 wickets this season and has gone at a miserly economy of just 4.44.
Colin Munro (c), Unmukt Chand (wk), Andries Gous, Rassie van der Dussen, Armaan Kapoor, Mohammad Nawaz, Romario Shepherd, Jason Behrendorff, Junaid Siddique, Jatinderpal Matharu, Nikhil Dutta
The CAA Centre in Ontario offers a slower pitch, and batting isn’t easy here. With a hard pitch and new ball, the early overs offer the best scoring opportunities. However, the pitch becomes slower as the match progresses, favoring spin bowlers. New batters will find it difficult to score freely against spin on this surface and must show patience and application to survive.
Rain ruined quite a few matches this week. However, the weather seems to have cleared up in Ontario. The forecast says we will have a partly cloudy and windy day, with no chances of rain.
The average first innings score at the CAA Centre is around 130 runs in Global T20 Canada. This season, the highest total posted at the venue is Brampton Wolves’ 198-6 against Surrey Jaguars. They won that match by 59 runs. However, since the start of August, the highest total posted here is Toronto Nationals’ 143-5 while chasing a target of 142 versus Brampton Wolves in Qualifier 2. This shows that you can’t expect high scores here at present. The team batting first in the final will be looking to set a score of around 140-150 runs.
The last five completed games at the CAA Centre in Ontario have been won by the chasing side. While batting first is always the safer option in a final, we feel both captains will be tempted to field first here going by the recent records.
Montreal Tigers have made it to the finals on the back of amazing performances by their bowling unit. Unfortunately, their batters haven’t really fired and Montreal will be hoping that their bowlers deliver one final time here. Toronto Nationals have had a pretty similar campaign. We expect this to be a hard-fought contest, but Montreal Tigers should prevail as they look like the much stronger team overall.
We are backing Montreal Tigers as the winners of the 2024 Global T20 Canada final.
