Last season didn’t go Madurai Panthers’ way—they managed just two wins, suffered four losses, and wrapped up the campaign in seventh place. They’ll be looking to turn things around this time, but that depends heavily on whether their batting can deliver, something that didn’t happen last year.
The batting lineup has gone through a complete overhaul, and there’s fresh talent to look forward to. NS Chaturved, Balchander Anirudh, S Shyam Sundar, S Ganesh, and Atheeq Rahman are expected to form the backbone of the batting order. While there’s promise, there’s also a lack of experience, which means it might take a few games for the unit to settle in and start producing.
The bowling looks more settled, with Murugan Ashwin leading the charge. The leg-spinner was the top wicket-taker for Madurai in the previous season, claiming 10 wickets in seven games while keeping things tight with an economy rate of 7.27. Gurjapneet Singh, P Vignesh, and Karthik Meiyappan are all capable of picking up timely breakthroughs and will be expected to do just that.

Salem Spartans had a tough ride in TNPL 2024, finishing at the bottom with just one win in seven matches. There’s only one way to go from here, and that’s up, but they’ll need a solid launch to get things moving.
Much of that depends on how R Kavin performs. He was the backbone of their batting last season, scoring 160 runs in five outings at an average of 32 and a strike rate of 130.
Rajendran Vivek and all-rounder S Harish Kumar also chipped in with the bat last year, and both will be relied upon to step up again. Abishiek Selvakumar is another name to watch — his ability to steady the innings on sluggish tracks could prove useful.
With the ball, M Poiyamozhi will once again be the go-to man. He topped their wicket charts last season, bagging 16 wickets at an economy rate of 8.16. Sunny Sandhu, Harish Kumar, and Yazh Arun Mozhi were part of the bowling core too, and they’ll be counted on to make regular breakthroughs this time around.
Bringing in pacer M. Mohammed gives them more depth in the pace department and could help balance out the attack.

The SNR College Cricket Stadium in Coimbatore tends to make batters work harder for their runs. It’s a little two-paced, and spinners usually get some help off the pitch, especially during the middle phase of the innings. Seamers will have to rely on slower ones and cutters.
Forecasts for Coimbatore point to partly cloudy weather and the chance of a few afternoon thunderstorms, so a rain break or two might be on the cards.
Teams batting first at the SNR College Cricket Stadium average 151. In TNPL 2025’s first match, Dindigul Dragons comfortably chased 150 in 17.2 overs, beating Lyca Kovai Kings by seven wickets. With that recent result in mind, both teams are likely to aim for a total somewhere in the 170–180 range if they want to feel secure about defending it.
Fielding teams generally have the upper hand at the SNR College Cricket Ground, and this was proved in the first match of TNPL 2025 played here as Dindigul Dragons coasted to a five-wicket win. Both captains will hence look to field first in this game.
Siechem Madurai Panthers and Salem Spartans enter this TNPL season with a lot to prove. Siechem's batting unit has undergone a revamp, and it seems their bowling unit will need to carry the load. Salem, on the other hand, have stuck with their core group and appear more settled overall. That gives them the edge and makes them the better pick for this contest.
Salem Spartans are our picks for the winners of this match.
