After the day-night opening game of the three match series was washed out in Napier after only 36.4 overs of the first innings, players, s and ers were delighted to see 96.4 overs of action in the second game in Nelson with New Zealand Women coming out on top by a winning margin of 78 runs!

There is no travelling between cities or venues ahead of this match on Sunday with the Saxton Oval in Nelson once again being used for the fixture.

Of course, this could have an effect on the result with the pitch likely to be a little more worn than in Thursday's game and the Sri Lanka Women players may also have some negative connotations of the venue after a comprehensive defeat.

That said, Sri Lanka Women's skipper Chamari Athapaththu had a rare poor day with the bat on Thursday and if she can find her top form for this match then the tourists could well be in with a shot of levelling the series.

New Zealand Preview

After the disappointment of none of the players getting a bat in the first game of the series, New Zealand Women found themselves in trouble on 46/3 and 59/4 in the second WODI before Maddy Green, Jess Kerr and keeper-batter Polly Inglis came to the rescue.

Green hit 100 runs from 109 balls and will be full of confidence ahead of this match but the team management will be looking for more from captain Suzie Bates, Emma McLeod and Brooke Halliday who all made single figure scores in the top four.

The bowling attack have actually managed to have two good workouts so far in the series and will come into this game with their fitness and performance levels high. Opening bowler Bree Illing has taken a two wicket haul in both games but it was Hannah Rowe who most impressed on Friday with 4/31.

New Zealand Predicted Playing XI:

Suzie Bates (c), Georgia Plimmer, Emma McLeod, Brooke Halliday, Maddy Green, Isabella Gaze, Jess Kerr, Polly Inglis (wk), Hannah Rowe, Eden Carson, Bree Illing

Sri Lanka Women Preview

Just like the New Zealand Women bowling attack, Sri Lanka Women's batters have actually had plenty of action so far in this series although their returns of 147/5 from 36.4 overs and 167 all out from 46.4 overs have not been too pretty!

One player who has really impressed is number three batter Harshita Samarawickrama who has top scored in both innings. She hit 59 runs from 77 balls on Friday to back up her 66 runs from 96 balls in the no-result opener.

Key to Sri Lanka Women's success in this fixture will be Samarawickrama and Athapaththu putting on some kind of long partnership as they are far and away their top batters.

With the ball, Athapaththu took 2/42 on Friday with Inoshi Priyadharshani also impressing.

Sri Lanka Women Predicted Playing XI:

Vishmi Gunaratne, Chamari Athapaththu (c), Harshitha Samarawickrama, Kavisha Dilhari, Manudi Nanayakkara, Nilakshika Silva, Anushka Sanjeewani (wk), Sugandika Kumari, Achini Kulasuriya, Inoshi Priyadharshani, Chethana Vimukthi

Weather Conditions

It could be a chilly start at 11:00 on Sunday but the temperature will soon rise to 18 degrees by midday. No rain is forecast although there will be sporadic cloudy spells.

NZW vs SLW Pitch Report

There is consistent bounce and good carry in Nelson so whoever bats first will be looking for a total of around 250 to be competitive. There will also be some turn for the spinners.

Toss: To Bat

New Zealand Women won the toss and elected to bat first on Friday, a decision which saw them execute a victory so we predict that both teams will want to bat first also ahead of this game.

This looks like being another game for Sri Lanka Women where the performance of Chamari Athapaththu is key to the result! As yet in the series, she has not produced with the bat but we expect a significant contribution from her on Sunday. However, we still fancy New Zealand Women to come out on top and to secure a 2-0 series victory.

We are backing New Zealand Women to win!
