Two teams with identical Played, Won and Lost records go head to head in this clash and neither Punjab Kings or RCB can afford to lose their eighth game of this campaign. If they do, the simple maths are likely to prove that they are unable to make the top four this campaign.
But whichever side comes out on top will not only be just two points behind the top four but will also be carrying plenty of momentum into their two final fixtures. With none of the teams in third to sixth winning all of their last three games, there are certainly chinks in the armour and one of Punjab Kings or RCB could nip into the top four with a strong end to the group stage.
Now is not the time to falter though. Who will prevail?

Whenever anyone looks at the teamsheet for Punjab Kings, they always think this should be a team challenging at the top of the Indian Premier League but so far this season it has been a lack of consistency with the bat which has cost them. And it could have been oh so different if captain Shikhar Dhawan had not been injured early in the tournament and he is once again expected to miss out in this game.
Without Dhawan, the batting line-up is likely to rely heavily on Jonny Bairstow, Prabhsimaran Singh and Shashank Singh. Harshal Patel and Arshdeep Singh are the two chief wicket-takers in the side although Rahul Chahar has also picked up in recent games and comes into this match after taking 3/23 last time out.
One of the most consistent run-scorers for Punjab Kings, Shashank Singh scored 27 runs in the last match and he has scored over 20 runs in his last three innings. Considering how well he has performed in his last three innings, we back Shashank Singh to score over 19.5 runs in today's match.

In some ways it has been brilliant, but in others it has been frustrating to the max for RCB fans who are enjoying their sides resurgence in the group stage but it is tinged with a disappointment that it has come so late in the day.
But is it too late? That is the key question. Most pundits think that three more wins between now and the end of the first stage will be enough to get RCB into the top four but if that were to happen it would mean they had recorded six victories in a row in total!
With a batting line-up firing at the top and in the middle, not to mention Mohammed Siraj picking up a Player of the Match Award after his bowling exploits last time, RCB are a team not to mess with.

This is not one of the best batting wickets in the tournament and any thoughts of a 500+ runs total across the match are for the birds. Whoever bats first should feel confident if they post 180+ on a pitch which is likely to be a little two-paced.
Teams batting first have had the most success at this venue in the IPL although it is by no means a huge difference! Still, as CSK did in the last game on their way to winning, we expect the captains to both want to bat first ahead of the toss.
Punjab Kings have impressed over the last couple of weeks but there were signs of batting frailties once again in their last match. RCB are a team playing purely on confidence at the moment but it is taking them a long way and we expect their powerful batting line-up to deliver again in this game. Our prediction is for RCB to beat Punjab Kings on Thursday evening.
We are backing RCB to win!
