This tournament has already gone through the first two rounds of fixtures and we can see the table starting to take shape with the two teams with 100% records at the top, Rangpur Division and Dhaka Metropolis, already four points ahead of the two winless and point-less sides at the foot, Sylhet Division and Barisal Division.
The standard of cricket has been high from all teams and for the likes of Sylhet Division, a couple of decisions or slightly longer innings from individual batters could have seen them in a very different position ahead of this third round of games.
Interestingly, the pitches were seeming to slow down at the end of the first two days of action and it could well be that they find some life in them again ahead of this match.
207/4 in 20.0 10.35
205/4 in 20.0 10.25
112/9 in 17.0 6.59
140/5 in 20.0 7
134/5 in 16.5 7.96
132/9 in 20.0 6.6
After two eventually comfortable wins, although not without the odd wobble, Rangpur Division will come into this game on Saturday in a confident frame of mind and looking to make it three victories from three since the start of the tournament.
In their last game, middle-order runs from Ariful Haque (45 not out) and Mohammad Enamul (26 not out) rescued Rangpur from 39/3, 41/4 and 92/5 to eventually post 140/5. In this fixture, the team management will be looking for more runs from the top four of Chowdhury Md Rizwan, Tanbir Hayder, Naeem Islam and Abdullah Al Mamun.
With the ball, it was Chodhury Md Rizwan who impressed and who the Sylhet batters are likely to be most wary of ahead of this game. The 19 year old comes into this fixture after returning figures of 4/21 on Thursday and he looks like a real star of the present and tomorrow.
Chowdhury Md Rizwan, Tanbir Hayder, Naeem Islam, Abdullah Al Mamun, Akbar Ali (c) (wk), Ariful Haque, Mohammad Enamul, Alauddin Babu, Abdul Gaffar Saqlain, Arif Ahmed, Mukidul Islam
Asadulla Al Galib, Jishan Alam, Tawfique Khan, Mahfuzur Rahman, Amite Hasan, Abu Jayed, Ebadot Hossain, Khaled Ahmed, Nabil Samad, Tufayel Ahmed, Rahatul Ferdous
Chasing 146 to get their first win of the tournament, Sylhet Division could only muster 133 all out against Chattogram Division on Thursday in a 15-overs per side contest. Keeper-batter and opener Tawfique Khan certainly did his bit for the team, hitting 76 runs from 36 balls with a spectacular innings which included 7x fours and 6x sixes, but even if he does something similar in this game, he will need more from his fellow top four batters who between them lasted four balls and all got ducks!
With the ball, Khaled Ahmed stood out with 4/19 from his three overs and the 32 year old has already brought up five wickets in the tournament. It will also be interesting to see which version of medium pacer Tofael Ahmed turns up after he took 2/7 from three overs on Thursday, a day after going for 38 from the same number of overs on Wednesday.
Tawfique Khan (wk), Jishan Alam, Amite Hasan, Asadulla Al Galib, Wasif Akbar, Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby (c), Tofael Ahmed, Khaled Ahmed, Abu Jayed, Ebadot Hossain, Nayeem Ahmed
Ariful Haque, Rizwan Chowdhury, Abdullah Al Mamun, Arif Ahmed, Mohammad Enamul Haque, Naeem Islam, Tanbir Hayder, Akbar Ali, Alauddin Babu, Mukidul Islam, Robiul Haque
No cloud cover is forecast across the scheduled time for this game so it should be a warm and sunny early afternoon in Sylhet. The temperature is forecast to be at 24 degrees from start to finish.
Thursday's two games at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium delivered 38 wickets and no team score over 162! We expect a slightly better batting surface in this early afternoon game with a par score likely to be 175+.
All four winners on Thursday were teams who batted first but this still looks like a format which batters prefer to chase in. We predict that both teams will want to bowl first ahead of this game.
Sylhet Division are certainly not the worst team in the tournament but they have not played to their full ability as yet and now find themselves up against one of the leading lights in Rangpur Division. We do not expect a one-sided fixture but are backing Ranpur Division to make it three wins from three.
We are backing Rangpur Division to win!
