Both teams come into this match after suffering a defeat in the hands of table-topper and last year’s winner Barbados Royals Women. Warriors Women will be really confident about putting on a show against Knight Riders Women, a team they’ve not lost to yet.

After 3 encounters over two years, of which one was a no result, we have Guyana Women leading the head to head 2-0. The girls from Trinbago will be hoping that they open their against the Guyanese women in this fixture.

Triumphing over eventual champions Royals last season was the only high point of Riders’ an year ago, and the Trinbago women will be looking forward to producing a similar performance in this match.

Trinbago Knight Riders Preview

Trinbago Knight Riders Women took out the inaugural women’s L in 2022 without dropping a match. Their bowlers operated smartly and made life difficult for chasing team with some disciplined bowling you’ll ever see in any of those women T20 leagues going around. Their strategy was simple: their batters would hold their innings together and try to get the team total as close as possible to a par score say around 110 and then unleash their bowlers on the opposition.

Their second season was a dud (1 win and 3 losses) mainly because they couldn’t improvise on the strategy that brought a lot of success in the first season. Their batting unit got bowled out for less than 75 in two instances, meaning their bowlers had little to work with. Their batters have never been too comfortable playing slow bowlers, and it also showed in their opening game a couple of days ago.

Royals’ spin-heavy attack never let Riders’ batters to get back into the game after removing their top order cheaply. Down 6/57 in the tenth over, Shikha Pandey and Zaida James chipped in with a useful fifty run partnership to give their total a bit of respectability. But their bowlers were blown away in the chase, with Royals batters cruising through to track down 115.

Guyana Amazon Warriors Preview

Guyana Amazon Warriors Women have not won a title, but they have shown that they are so close to winning one.

Having come agonizingly close to winning their first title last time, Guyana women took on Royals women in a reprise of last year’s final. Their top-heavy batting like up got a decent start against the defending champs and were looking set to post a big total at the beginning of the 17th over mark. But the end of the innings was shambolic. Taylor went back to the hut the same over and the lower order crumbled under pressure, adding just 18 runs in the rest of their innings. 6 wickets fell in the last 23 balls, with just 18 runs added in that period of play.

Despite a poor finish to the batting innings, Warriors weren’t ready to surrender meekly and put in a great fight with the ball, removing four Royals wickets inside the first 11 overs. But they couldn’t quite see the back of Hayley Matthews and the star player took Royals over the line to victory. Led by Hill, this team has what it takes to win championships, but they’ll need to quickly course correct and come back with a resounding victory over Riders, a team that they have had a lot of success against.

Guyana Amazon Warriors Predicted Playing XI:

Lauren Winfield-Hill(w/c), Chloe Tryon, Erin Burns, Natasha McLean, Shemaine Campbelle, Stafanie Taylor, Ashmini Munisar, Shabnim Ismail, Nyia Latchman, Karishma Ramharack, Shakera Selman.

Weather Conditions

The wicket here has developed a bit of reputation of late for being hard to bat on. The T20 WC semi-final wicket where South Africa routed Afghanistan for 56 is enough proof that bowlers can dominate batters here if they can take advantage of the excessive movement early on and uneven bounce during the middle overs. Weather-wise, there are some showers forecast early in the day, but it’s a positive that the conditions are expected to improve by the afternoon.

TKR-W vs GAW-W Pitch Report

This match is all set to take place at the Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba in Trinidad. This is the first time the WL is happening on this venue, and both teams have yet to win a fixture here.

Toss: To Bowl

Royals won the toss and opted to bowl in both the matches here, which they went on to win eventually. So we're guessing the captain winning the toss would show more interest in chasing.

We predict that Guyana Amazon Warriors Women have the right balance with bat and ball to take full advantage of what the Trinidad wicket has on offer.

We are backing Guyana Amazon Warriors as winners of this contest.
