A narrow loss is often difficult to process but Toyam Hyderabad need to quickly put their opening-day heartbreak behind them as they face Gujarat Greats in their second match of the Legend League Cricket 2024. Despite a narrow 1-run loss in their debut, Suresh Raina’s men will be determined to prove that they can quickly bounce back from a defeat and compete at their best.
Featuring the likes of Dhawan and Gayle, Gujarat Greats are no pushovers either. They ringed in the changes before the tournament, with just four holdovers from last season. They’d be hoping that their new skipper Shikhar Dhawan would inspire their new-look squad to play to their potential and take them to the backend of the tournament.
Gujarat would be looking to kick things off with a win, whereas Hyderabad hope for strong performance in their second match to set the tone for the rest of their campaign.

Runners-up last season, Toyam Hyderabad’s first outing in this year’s competition ended up in an agonizing defeat. But they’ll be happy that they don’t have a lot of time to dwell on what went wrong, with their next challenge coming up in less than 24 hours’ time.
Suresh Raina’s men will need to quickly regroup and focus on applying their skills, as a strong performance in this match will be crucial for their hopes of progressing in the tournament. Bipul Sharma and Samiullah Shinwari bowled with discipline to pick three wickets between them on a surface that didn’t offer much assistance to bowlers.
Sri Lankan new ball pair Isuru Udana and Nuwan Pradeep were couldn’t cause problems for the opposition batting as they struggled to penetrate into the opposition batting despite claiming an early breakthrough. Roger Binny and Peter Trego, with their military medium pace, couldn’t create much impact either. The bowling unit would be looking to attack right from the word go and restrict the opposition from scoring huge. On the batting front, Hyderabad did well to come so close to the target.
Openers Chadwick Walton and George Worker got them off to a good start, but Rikki Clarke coming in at one-drop couldn’t do much. Suresh Raina and Ricardo Powell, known for their destructive batting, didn’t trouble the scorers but they’ll be looking to make amends. All-rounders Peter Trego and Binney played handy knocks shuffling down the order but couldn’t quite get the team over the line.

Gujarat Greats, having lost two eliminator knockouts in a row, enter this season with a totally new-look roster, save for a handful of experienced players from last year namely Chris Gayle, Sreesanth, Liam Plunkette and Seekuge Prasanna. These four players bring in stability to a squad that has undergone significant changes. The think-tank opted to this revamp their squad knowing full well that wholesale changes present both opportunities and challenges.
Gujarat Greats will be hoping that their new-look squad will take the opportunities that come their way. In a competition like this, it’s important that the players gel quickly and work together as a group to move forward.
And Shikhar Dhawan, who’s new to the outfit himself, would look to draw from his recent IPL stint as a captain and marshal his resources well. The team is packed with flamboyant batsmen like Gayle, Simmons, Dhawan, and experienced T20 bowlers like Sreesanth, Plunkett etc. The all-rounders pool doesn’t look very strong though and that might pose a problem as they go deep into the tournament.
Chris Gayle, Shikhar Dhawan(C), Lendl Simmons, Mohammad Kaif, Asghar Afghan, Morne Van Wyk (wk), John Mooney, Seekuge Prasanna, S Sreesanth, Liam Plunkett and Shannon Gabriel.

Two matches. Two contrasting match aggregates. The aggregate in the first match was just a shade over 200, but it quickly rose to nearly 370 in the second. Batters who get their eye in have shown that it is possible to score big here, while bowlers both pacers and spinners have been able to find purchase on helpful wickets here. The weather forecast for the match looks good.
Barkatullah Khan Stadium, Jodhpur is a relatively new venue in this circuit. The wickets here have plenty to offer to both batters and bowlers.
With two close matches so far, toss doesn’t offer teams a distinct advantage. But with the teams batting first holding on for a win on two occasions, the captain winning toss would be thinking about batting first and putting a huge total on board.
Toyam Hyderabad showed signs that they could play as a collective group in the first match. They would be hoping to tighten up a few areas especially with new ball bowling to put pressure on the new-look Gujarat Greats. Hyderabad to win.
Our prediction is for Toyam Hyderabad to win this contest.
