IPL 2025 - Top Overseas Batters to watch out

We are just a week away from the beginning of the 18th season of the Indian Premier League. The league action will begin on the 22nd March with the first fixture between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Eden Gardens.

IPL 2025 is expected to be more exciting this year because of the mega auctions that took place in Jeddah in November 2024. After 3 years, the IPL mega auctions took place and some major changes were made to every squad.

In the last one year, some big names from T20 cricket have made it to the Premier League for the first time and some experienced batters have gone unsold. Big names like David Warner and Kane Williamson have failed to find a single buyer for themselves, but these two names have been replaced by new faces in IPL.

In India, the overseas players get equally respected if they are performing well enough for their designated squad. If a player has managed to perform exceptionally well, they manage to get a dedicated fan base among the Indian cricket lovers.

1) Travis Head - Sunrisers Hyderabad

In the last one year of T20 cricket, Travis Head has become one of the biggest names in the world. He is the most feared batsman across the globe when it comes to the shortest format of the game. In the previous edition of the league, Travis surprised everyone with his performance for Sunrisers Hyderabad and he came out as the 4th highest run-scorer in the league. With 64 boundaries and 32 maximums, Travis Head maintained his average at 40.50 with a strike rate of 191.55 in 15 fixtures.

2) Jos Buttler - Gujarat Titans

After 6 years of service to Rajasthan Royals, Jos Buttler will be seen playing for a new franchise - Gujarat Titans. Rajasthan Royals failed to retain their top batter before the auctions and the Titans grabbed the opportunity with both hands. He will be opening the game with India’s stylish Shubman Gill. It should be noted that during the India vs England T20I series in January, Jos Buttler came out as the 2nd highest run-scorer with 146 runs in 5 fixtures at an average of 29.20 with a strike rate of 137.73.

3) Nicholas Pooran - Lucknow Super Giants

The West Indies wicket-keeper batter had a good outing with Lucknow Super Giants in the previous edition of the league and he was the 2nd highest run-scorer for the team after KL Rahul. He has also performed well in the T20 international cricket last year. The advantage with Nicholas Pooran is his ability to adapt as per the playing conditions and that can make him the leading run-scorer in IPL in the list of overseas players.

4) Quinton de Kock - Kolkata Knight Riders

The South African top order batter - Quinton de Kock, has not been in good form when it comes to the Indian Premier League in the last few seasons. He was also a flop show in the recently held SA20 2025 cricket league. However, playing with the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders might change things for the Proteas batter in IPL 2025.

5) Phil Salt - Royal Challengers Bangalore

England’s Phil Salt has attracted the spotlight in the last one year wit his aggressive batting in the T20 cricket. He was part of Kolkata Knight Riders in the previous edition of the league but in IPL 2025, Salt will be seen playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore. He will be partnered with Virat Kohli at the top order and that is a golden chance for Salt to come out as the top scorer for the team or in the league.
