Bangladesh will take on Sri Lanka in the first game in the ICC Cricket World Cup Warm-up Matches 2023. While both teams will aim for a win to get their confidence for the rest of the tournament, it will be more about getting the playing combination right. It was a poor show by Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup, and they must get their act together. 

Bangladesh has a poor record against Sri Lanka in ODIs though they have won against them in recent years. The Bangladeshis lost the recent home series against the second-strong New Zealand side, and this will worry them. Sri Lanka also comes with a miserable loss in the Asia Cup final, and it will be interesting to see how the two teams shape up for this tournament.

Bangladesh Preview

Shakib al Hasan has command of the side for the tournament. The team selection wasn’t without its controversy, as they left Tamim Iqbal out of the squad due to internal differences among the players. The side will have to put all this behind them. Sri Lanka has a better record against them and defeated them in the Asia Cup. Shakib will want a strong show from his players in this game to prepare for the event.  

On the batting front Bangladesh, the side will like a good show from Litton Das, who has struggled with his form. Najmul Hossain Shanto has been in good form, and he will look to gain confidence with a good knock. Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mahmudullah will be other players the team management will be interested in as they form the core of this batting line-up.  

The side will miss Ebadot Hossain, who has been ruled out with an injury for the tournament. All eyes would be on Shakib, Mustafizur Rahman, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz who form the core of this bowling unit. The side will also expect good spells from Hasan Mahmud and Shoriful Islam, who must do well in the ing role in this long tournament.

Dasun Shanaka would like to come out of the horrors of the Asia Cup final against India. That game exposed the weakness and lack of temperament in the side. They have already suffered a major setback with their best bowler, Wanindu Hasaranga, forced out of the tournament with an injury. Shanaka has to get the best out of his resources and do well in this game.  

Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis and Charith Asalanka form the core of this batting line-up and the side would like them to do well in this warm-up game. Dimuth Karunaratne, Sadeera Samarawickram, and Dasun Shanaka haven’t been in the best of form in recent months, and the side would like to see them get decent match practice before the tournament starts.  

Maheesh Theekshana has been the most consistent bowler for the side, and he must do well in this game along with Kasun Rajitha for the side to do well in the tournament. The side will also need good performances from Dunith Wellalage and Lahiru Kumara, as they must share the workload with the two main bowlers in the tournament.
